This has become my favorite tobacco overall. I smoked the entire pipe until all that remained was fine white ash that fell from the bowl easily without dottle. The tin is very small and since it is a broken flake tobacco, if you are using a bigger sized pipe, you will need several flakes to fill the bowl. Great with Guiness! It is complex and reveals different subtleties with every bowl you smoke. ). Also, while it ages very well indeed in a sealed tin, I have no evidence to date that it improves with age in a jar. This superior blend is pure excellency! Nope, she's not here on weekly days. I have only smoked about three bowls. It made my other long time favorite English tobacco taste like used socks. This is a superb blend, rich and full of Latakia goodness. Early bowls were in factbalkan heaven in a tin. After a third of a bowl I had to dump it out. That extra dose of Crackotine (tm) that they heap on at the end? Smooth smooth smooth, with a "fluffy" full flavour in any size bowl. A blissful, near spiritual experience. As heretical as this might sound I do not think Penzance is the best Estoterica blend. Back when I was around 18 or 19 one could legally buy beer. Moisture is perfect . It broke apart easily enough though and was perfect for packing into our pipes. To me it is alot like S.G. Chocolate Flake. And I have smoked all the highest reviewed lat blends. I give it 4 Star . It's true, it's true, it's all true. I think everyone should try this just to see what all the buzz is about. It is, simply put, sublime, and is what makes Penzance unique. I don't even care that NOBODY will come around me when I smoke it. When i took my first draw..i was struck by an epiphany of amazement. I have never been able to purchase Penzance on SP, but resorted to purchasing it on the se condary market. They have a winning product and can never seem to be able to ramp up production. Updates on New Cigars, Pipes, Pipe Tobacco, Accessories, I was expecting a luxuriously rich, opulent, and flavorful smoke - pleasing to the taste, nose, and sinuses. But it's a tobacco that does not deserve it's impossibly loyal following. The major down side to this tobacco is the difficulty in obtaining it on a regular basis, fortunately I have a tin in the cellar. This is not a complex blend and changes very little from beginning to end. Frog Morton OTT is better in that department. Remember when you were a kid and your mom gave you a pudding cup and your were enjoying that pudding cup but after you was finished you were kinda sad cause you had no more pudding and you wanted more? I'm so glad I chose to enjoy what I had. This tobacco can be rubbed directly into the bowl instead of having to make multiple rubbing passes into the lid as with most Virginia flakes (and Bengal Slices). I previously had not bought a pipe in at least 10 years. Orlik Pipe Tobacco It's truly a hall of fame tobacco. A full English blend. I am not a seasoned pipe smoking veteran, having only 10 months behind me. There is some spice from the Turkish component, but the strength and body come from Latakia- soft, lilting, round, creamy, smoky, woodsy Latakia. Stop reading right here, go get as much as you can, and then go back and get some more. Smoke the whole tin before you give up on it. Pipes that normally give me a 45 min smoke with other blends last for well over an hour with Penzance. This is not to say it isn't an excellent blend, well worth smoking (if you can get your hands on it). More and more Smoking Pipes is demonstrating to me that it has lost its touch with customer service. A little damp from the container but fired right up and smoked well. It burns when it used to roll by like a cool summer breeze. Exceptionally smooth oriental and latakia blend with those two weeds being the main players. Even though I love to play with crumble cake, I'm usually to busy working to worry about the tobacco density in my bowl- enjoy, When I first tried this a few months ago I thought it was OK. Such are the burdens of quality, I guess. I recommend getting on the waitlist que. I laid my half full pipe down, and went for another pipe and the other new (to me) brand that I had purchased. The one, the old 1894 established Riches Cigar in Portland had been out of Penzance for a while and suggested the Germains as a reasonable substitute. A big disappointment. I will be updating this review as I explore this blend and this line up in several different pipes. Oh well, there's no accounting for taste and to a lover of full blown Latakia blends this would be great, especially due to the great burning characteristics. Very Wimpy. I walked into my favorite Boston tobacco shop looking for something else. Not an easy blend to find but I was fortunate to locate some in bulk. I can't imagine that it can get better than it is, but other reviewers assure me it will! Billiards and slightly bent billiard/calabashes seems to work best for me. I smoked aromatics when I began pipe smoking a year ago, but this is what I smoke. Its not one of the wife's favorites. The job I came to Taiwan to begin does not, in fact, exist, and the four other jobs I've looked at haven't panned out. I am perplexed by the varied opinions & differences in defining the quality, or lack thereof about Penzance & after reading most all of the reviews, I've reached a conclusion there's simply a lack of "Quality Control" as each batch gets totally opposing reviews on taste, flavoring & strength declarations.
